Detale Architecture and Engineering has carried out the full rehabilitation of a 60 sqm two-bedroom guesthouse on the rugged coastline of Kardamyli, Greece.
This modest beach retreat has been thoughtfully reimagined to blend contemporary comfort with the timeless character of its coastal setting.
The design prioritises openness and visual connection to the sea and garden. Carefully framed views and strategically placed openings blur the boundaries between interior and exterior, immersing the space in natural light and Mediterranean colour.
Locally sourced limestone acts as a unifying material, flowing seamlessly from outside to inside and adding texture, warmth, and a sense of permanence. Coloured limestone accents and custom details—like handcrafted sinks—bring subtle vibrancy and a bespoke quality to the interiors.
An open-plan layout connects the kitchen, dining, and living areas, combining functionality with a calm, inviting atmosphere. Despite its compact size, the home includes intimate corners designed for privacy and quiet reflection, offering a true retreat within nature.
The restoration honours the original structure by revealing elements of the existing stonework, preserving its story while integrating refined modern touches. A lush garden and fully furnished outdoor area extend the living space, encouraging outdoor living and connection with the landscape.
